AI Photo Tools for Online Sellers
Cut out backgrounds, rescue supplier photos and hit every marketplace's image spec without a studio, a designer, or a subscription to software you use twice a month.
Product photography is the one part of an online store you cannot fake and cannot skip. Amazon rejects listings whose main image is not on pure white. Shopify themes crop to square and punish anything shot in portrait. Etsy buyers zoom, and a soft 800-pixel photo falls apart when they do. Meanwhile the photos you actually have came from a supplier's catalogue at 600 pixels wide, with their studio floor and a competitor's watermark still in frame.
These tools exist for that gap. Not to replace a real product shoot — a considered shoot will always beat an algorithm — but to make the photos you already own usable, at the volume a catalogue actually demands.
How it works
-
1
Strip the background
The background remover cuts the product out and leaves a transparent PNG or a pure-white JPEG. Marketplace-compliant on the first try, including the hair-fine edges on textiles and the transparent sections of glassware.
-
2
Upscale to spec
Amazon wants 1600px on the longest side to enable zoom; most supplier images are half that. The upscaler takes a 600px catalogue photo to 2400px without the plastic look that bicubic resizing gives.
-
3
Clean the frame
The object remover takes out price stickers, reflections of the photographer, and the props that came with someone else's shoot. The watermark remover clears supplier stamps from images you have the rights to use.
What sellers actually use this for
Dropship catalogues
Supplier photos arrive small, watermarked and shot against whatever was in the warehouse. Three passes gets them to a listing standard, and the batch takes minutes rather than a week of outsourced editing.
Marketplace compliance
Amazon's main-image rule — product on pure white, filling 85% of the frame, no text or props — is the single most common reason a listing gets suppressed. The background remover produces that image directly.
Variant shots
One good photo becomes the whole colour range. Recolour the product with the image editor rather than reshooting six times, and keep lighting and angle identical across the set.
Lifestyle backgrounds
Cut the product out, generate a setting behind it, and get the in-context shot that lifts conversion without hiring a location or a model.
Ad creative
The same product on a dozen backgrounds, sized for Meta, Pinterest and Google Shopping, from one source image. Test what converts instead of guessing once and committing.
Old listings
Stores that have been trading for years usually have a long tail of listings photographed on a phone in 2019. Restoring and upscaling those is the cheapest catalogue refresh available.
Getting listing photos right
- Shoot or source the largest image you can before upscaling. The upscaler recovers detail, but it recovers more from 1200px than from 400px.
- Cut out first, then upscale. Doing it the other way round means the edge detection works on interpolated pixels and the cutout goes soft.
- For anything shiny or transparent — glass, jewellery, cellophane — check the cutout at full size before publishing. Reflections are the hardest case for any background remover.
- Keep the transparent PNG as your master. Marketplaces want different backgrounds and you can flatten to any of them from a PNG, but you cannot recover transparency once it is gone.
- Fill 85% of the frame. It is Amazon's rule and it is also just a better photo — buyers scanning a grid of thumbnails see the product, not the whitespace.

A good product shoot communicates scale, texture and use in a way no amount of processing recovers. If a product's appeal is tactile — fabric, ceramics, anything handmade — photograph it properly at least once. These tools are for the ninety other SKUs where a clean, compliant, sharp image is the whole job.
The honest test: would a buyer be surprised by the item when it arrives? If processing is making the product look like something it is not, that is a returns problem, not a conversion win.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my supplier's product photos?
Only with their permission. Most dropship suppliers explicitly license their catalogue images to resellers, and many require you to remove their watermark before listing. Check your supplier agreement — if you have the right to use the image, you have the right to edit it.
Will a background removed by AI pass Amazon's checks?
Yes, when the result is a genuine pure white (RGB 255,255,255) with no shadow bleed. Export against white rather than transparent for the main image, and check the corners at full zoom — a near-white background is the usual reason a compliant-looking image gets flagged.
How many photos can I process?
Free accounts get three credits, one time. Beyond that a paid plan covers a working catalogue; the credits page has the current per-tool cost, and background removal is the cheapest of the three tools most sellers use.
Does upscaling actually help conversion?
Indirectly. It enables marketplace zoom, which is correlated with higher conversion because buyers who zoom are buyers evaluating seriously. A photo too small to zoom removes that step entirely.
